Nuclear Horizons: SMR Deployment and Integrated Energy Systems

The Central Asia branch of the New Nuclear Watch Institute (NNWI) is pleased to invite you to this event, taking place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

As Uzbekistan's energy demand is projected to nearly double by 2050, ensuring a reliable baseload power source is crucial. In line with this, the country has launched its “Nuclear Development Plan 2019 - 2029,” which includes plans for a new nuclear power plant featuring six Small Modular Reactors (SMRs).

Uzbekistan aims to diversify its energy systems with nuclear alongside green energy sources like solar and wind. With infrastructure work for a six-unit SMR power plant expected to commence this autumn, and a contract signed with Russia for a 330 MW capacity plant, Uzbekistan is positioning itself at the forefront of nuclear energy development.

This event will address the integration of SMRs into the energy mix, explore advances in technology, and discuss the necessary infrastructure to support a stable and sustainable energy system.
