NNWI warmly welcomes EU Energy Commissioner Kadri Simson’s support for an Industrial Alliance on Small Modular Reactors. 

Commissioner Simson’s announcement at this week’s European Nuclear Energy Forum in Bratislava paves the way for Europe to become a world leader in the rollout of SMRs. 

The development of SMRs offers the prospect of lower cost nuclear power. Their smaller size will enable zero carbon nuclear generated electricity to be deployed in places and communities which have not previously enjoyed the benefits of access to nuclear energy.

NNWI Chairman Tim Yeo said “We congratulate Commissioner Simson on her initiative which will help to bring forward the day when SMRs begin operations. Her decision is further evidence of the growing recognition by the European Commission of the essential role of nuclear in Europe’s clean energy transition."
